THERMOCOUPLE

Thermocouples

Thermocouples are pairs of dissimilar metal wires joined at one end, which generates a net thermoelectric a voltage between the open pair according to the temperature difference between the ends. The junction that is put into the process in which temperature is being measured is called the HOT JUNCTION. The other junction which is at the last point of thermocouple material and which is almost always at some kind of measuring instrument is called the COLD JUNCTION. Thermocouples are available either as the bare wire which offers low cost and fast response times or built into probes. A wide variety of probes are available, suitable for different measuring applications (industrial, scientific, food temperature, medical research etc).
